Sundial — 2026. ~13”x13”8”. Steel, pine rosin, nylon, loom spring, mirrored plastic lawn ornament, disco ball motor
The base of Sundial is a large steel bowl that sits on an inverted disco ball motor. A steel arm protrudes from the center of the steel bowl, suspending a sphere of cast pine rosin by a red nylon loop on the end of a defunct loom spring. The motor rotates at one revolution per minute, causing the cast pine rosin sphere to drag and erode against the inner edge of the steel bowl. Inside the steel bowl, a mirrored plastic lawn ornament reacts to the subtle shifting of the motor mechanism, sporadically forced into its own orbit.
