The text of "Compass" investigates the symbolic connotations associated with East and West in literature, using my mother and her family's experiences of migration and relocation to show how these literary standards can be altered. Focusing on the idea of context as a tool to reconcile identity, "Compass" explores how both my mother and I choose to use the context of our familial histories.
