Desert Ghosts I

(Ghosts I've Never Met)

Digital Textile Print on Silk with Screenprinting

12.5"x12.5"

2016

"Ghosts I've Never Met" focuses on familial trauma and the more nuanced ways it can affect subsequent generations because of time and distance. Using Toyo Suyemoto's poems "In Topaz" and "Camp Memories" alongside manipulated stills of the ground in Topaz, "Ghosts I've Never Met" considers the harsh and invasive images Toyo uses to describe her experience of the internment camps with the more muted manifestations of that trauma on my mother.
