Spine — 2026. ~42”x10”x36”. Leather, silk, granite, steel, bearing balls, pine rosin, Darth Vader house key

Spine stands (or rather, lunges) in space, cutting an almost-parabolic arc across the floor. On one end of the arc, a steel ball the size of a baseball anchors the structure. On the other, a half-polished chunk of pink granite balances the rest of the arc on its ‘toe,’ the ‘heel’ of the stone suspended off the ground. A glossy cast hemisphere of pine rosin sits in the space between the heel of the stone and the floor. Like a bug in amber, a house key with a decal of Darth Vader on it is suspended in the rosin cast.

The entire length of the arc is covered by a skin of leather: the deconstructed skins of roughly forty baseballs are reconfigured and re-stitched with a glossy silk thread into an articulated tube, essentially a stretched-out spiral. In each hollow ball-pocket, a mirrored bearing-ball occasionally winks at an inquisitive viewer.
